MAHABHAARATAM PART IV - SARPA YAGA
Jnamejaya is son of Parikshit who died due to Snake Takshaka bite for Sungi curse. After incarnation, king janamejaya married vaushta the princess of Kasi. King janamejaya fully aware of the death of his father and wanted to take revenge on the total snake world.
He organised sarpa yaaga for which sage chanda bhargava became hota sage pingala adhvaryu and sage sardhama as brahma. Sages vaisampaayana, Paila and Veda Vyaasa too attended the sarpa yaaga. When mantras recited one by one snakes attracted towards the yaga kunda and voluntarily jump into it. Not one or two entire snake vasuki dynasty diminished in the yaaga.
The position of snake Takshaka in awkward condition the yaaga kunda is inviting him and was with full of fear. He is of sure that death is certain and he approched Indra to save him.
Snake vasuki repents about the curse of Kadruva and wanted to save his generation. He approached his sister’s son sage Asteeka. Jaratkaaru is the sister of Vasuki and mother of sage asteeka. Jaratkaaru, asked her son to consider the request of his maternal uncle and approach the king janamejaya to stop the sarpayaaga. Sage asteeka agreed and went to king janamejaya sarpayaaga place along with vedic priests and praised the king janamejaya about his vamsa and the pride and also consider him to stop the destruction of innoscent snakes killing. . The king and everyone in the yaga sala pleased and particularly king janamejaya asked the sage aseeta and agreed to stop the sarpa yaaga.
Due to the power of sages mantra recitation, indra discarded Takshaka and it is certain that takshaka to voluntarily arrive to yaaga kundu for sacrifice but in the meantime due to sage asteeka the yaaga was stopped. Innocent snakes were become the victims where is the powerful and wicked takshaka some how avoided the incident.
Man always likes to live in society. Hence, the villages, cities and states become the habitant. Though this is for some what good to man but itself become danger to his life. If any single person starts the fight it will spread to entire village and so on become a target to communal attack. Caste rivulry will become prime. We should not forget the history wherein hitler was totally eradicated due to jews rivalry.
Present global condition is also in the same route and every powerful country wanted to control others in caste/creed. Vyaasa give us a good example to this incident as sarpa yaaga and also the solution. The king Parikshit was subjected to death by Snake Takshaka. The king janamejaya should take revenge on Snake Takshaka only if he wanted to do so, but he has taken revenge on the entire snake community. The other snakes subjected to death have not done any harm to king Janamejaya but he never thought of it. Communal enimity is such. With king janamejaya there are so many learned priests, sages, including the sage vyaasa but no one has not averted the innocent killings.
It is unpordanable sin to eradicate one community complete. We have one more incident in mahabharata to cite this type of example is the story of PRAMADWARA. We have seen in history also many of them totally diminished who start to eradicate one community/caste/creed.
Wicked and cruel people always have alliance with power centres i.e. the present day politicians. (previously from rulers of the states). We experience this in today’s history in live. Actual person committed the mistake is snake Takshaka but he approached to Indra the supreme of devas. The men in power will always keep friendship woth wicked people for their personal gains. Likewise, indra also tried to save the snake Takshaka. But we should not forget that the same rulers/politicians will simply throw away the wicked who approached them if any problem arises to their seat itself.
When the sages in the sarpa yaaga recited SAHENDRAYA TAKSHAKAYA SWAHA indra simply washed his hands and thrown snake Takshaka to his destiny. That is why sage asteeka intervene and convinced the king janamejaya to stop the eradication of snake community.
Vyaasa wanted to state that snakes are only an indication but within ourselves we are also have many snakes and we should conduct the sarpayaga to eradicate the same wicked sarpas.
But history again and again proves that only the innocent and unconnected will affect and the actual persons responsible will be saved. This is the history of revolution. Same is happened in sarpa yaaga the innocent and unconnected snakes are targetted and the actual snake takshaka was not subjected to any harm.
We too keep in mind and not to poke ourserves in the revolutions, strikes or hartals otherwise we too have the same situation.
