gotramulu & rushulu 7

GOTRAMULU & RUSHULU - 7
UPAMANYU RISHI:  Upamanyu belongs to KAMBOJA, north western parts of Indian  subcontinent, now forms north eastern Afganistan and Southern parts of Tajikistan. Upamanyu was referred in Rig veda first mandala 102.9 as well as adi parva and anusasanika parva of Mahabharata.
Upamanyu gotra is considered to be off shoot of Brigu and parasara gotras.  Upamanyu is the son of Ugradanta, a poor Brahmin living in forests.  During his childhood  his mother could not able to provide cow milk to boy due to poor condition, and used to give some powdered milk available in the forest herbs.  Once, upamanyu has been to his maternal uncle house, who is rich, had opportunity to drink the cow milk for some days.  After returning to forests back he refused to drink the herbal powder milk provided by his mother.
Upamanyu mother advised upamanyu that whatever we get during this birth is the essence of our purvajanma sukruta and it is the final destiny provided by Lord Paramasiva.  She also told upamanyu to pray Lord Parameswara, by rendering panchakshara mantra. Upamanyu satisfied with this and had started chanting panchakshari vigourously.  For his severe penece,  lord parameswara appeared before him and offered so many boons, one being he will be every youthful.  Upamanyu not satisfied with the boons and prayed to parameswara to be in his manas through out and protect him from worldly lustures.
Upamanyu later  became guru to Krishna in his childhood days.
The present day palakollu in Andhra Pradesh is considered to be the  kheera puri given to upamanyu rushi.  The name palakollu itself derived from the pond but the pity is that due to encroachements the pond is not there but only the name remains.
SHAUNAKA GOTRA:  shanauka maharshi is son of Gritsamada and invented the four levels of human life. Shaunaka name applied to teachers and to a sakha of Atharvaveda.   Shaunaka is teacher for Katyayana and Aswalayana who united the sakhala and bhaskala saakhas of rig veda samhita.
SANKRITI GOTRA RISHI:  Sankriti  is grandson of sage vasishta and son of sage sakti.   We could not get much information about him except in the Avadhoota Upanishad where dattatreya explains the nature to sage sankriti, founder rishi of sankriti gotra.
The lineage of sankriti is sakthya, sankritya, gauriveeta
MOUDGALYA GOTRA:  mudgala rishi is the husband of Nalayani whom we heard as a great pativrata.  Nalayani is the young wife of aged mudgala rishi.  Once he was afflicted with leprosy.  Nalayanai used to serve her husband even in that stage though stinking.  Once when he was consuming food, one of his fingers fell off from his hands into the food.  Nalayani, removed it and partook the remaining food.  Mudgala was very much pleased with this. In order to please her he took five bodily forms to the five pancha boota elements and satisfied her in all respects.  Having lived for many years, he wanted to retire from family life and lead vanasprasta but nalayani prevented him in doing so.  So he cursed her that she will born as daughter to Drupada and marry five men representing five elements.
Mudgalas are rig vedies till such time when they were in northern part of India.  When shifted to Southern India shifted to Krishna Yajur veda  and follow only chandramana calendar when other Krishna yajur vedies follow soura mana calendar.
The moudgalas routed through from Baluchistan –punjab-kashmir-orissa-andhra-tamilnadu-karala.
We can see many stalwarts in mudgala gotrikas, one among them is SENGALIPURAM ANANTARAMA DEEKSHITAR, a stalwart in upanyasams in south india.
SANDILYA GOTRA RISHI:  Sandilya gotrikas. We can find is himavan, the father of Parvati when she took avatara as haimavati.  Other than this we could not find any more details about this rishi.  The lineage is Kashyapa, avatsaara, naidhruva, rebha, raibha, sandhila and sandilya.
